Story:

An exhilarating and unpredictable talent with limitless potential, Ian Sendi looks every inch a star performer tailor made for the biggest stage.

Never lacking self-confidence, the Ugandan has a clear goal – to become one of the best footballers in the USA – and is taking rapid strides towards fulfilling this ambition by swatting defensive adversaries aside and clearing any obstacles that come his way.

Finding a coach in Varney Cole who invested faith in his abilities enabled him to make a real splash at the 2015 American Premier League for FC Minneapolis when he announced himself to the watching fans with a fearlessness youth can often engender. Seemingly lacking any nerves despite the occasion, he sparkled when introduced as a right winger in the team’s 2015 league debut against Minnesota in the first round. Not only did he set up a goal for Darius Sango but he blasted in the winner himself against Oromo United in Fridley to further enhance a growing reputation.

Sendi, the name he should wear on the back of his shirt, started all 2016 American Premier League games but it proved to be his last involvement in the competition as Varney Cole’s side ultimately announced their exit from the league to become the first Independent professional soccer club in America. Yet nothing could stop the Ugandan juggernaut on his path to more stardom, just as he had previously been one of the leading goal scorers in FC Minneapolis’ first campaign in 2014 finishing with 26 goals in 19 appearances. Although not an out-and-out striker, his ability to penetrate from the left-hand side and unleash unstoppable right-footed shots caused nightmares for opposition defenses.

Undeniable star of the show at Curtes Rouge, the club he joined from Bemidji State as a youngster. The step up to FC Minneapolis, following in the footsteps of other footballing greats, did not faze him – even if it surely required a period of acclimatization to life in the American Premier League.

At least he has Varney Cole in charge of the City Lions, somebody who has already been a hugely positive influence from the time he joined the team.

Whereas many pundits and ex-players have been right to indicate there is going to be extra pressure on his shoulders in their independent campaign, his career trajectory suggests there is no great cause for doubt. A virtuoso display against Granite City FC at Huskies Dome in June 2016, when he scored a double during a 2-1 triumph for Varney Cole’s side, dismissed any notion that the former U21 Uganda national team player can only rise up to certain occasions. Another eye-catching performance for his team against Lacrosse Aris FC of the American Premier league, in the wake of the announcement that he will be staying at the club till 2019, served only to increase the anticipation for Minneapolis fans watching his wing wizardry live on Park TV.

Sendi is very much a modern footballer, radiating star status. FC Minneapolis offers him the perfect platform to achieve all of his goals and there is reason to expect it can become the perfect combination. It certainly promises to be explosive and the FC Minneapolis faithful are already excited.
