Never lacking self-confidence, the Ugandan had a clear goal when he first arrived in Minneapolis – to improve and become the best possible version of himself – and he took rapid strides towards fulfilling that ambition by swatting defensive adversaries aside and clearing any obstacles that came his way.

Finding a coach in Varney Cole then, who invested faith in his abilities since 2015, enabled him to make a real splash at the 2015 American Premier League for FC Minneapolis when he announced himself to the watching fans with a fearlessness youth can often engender, helping the club to win their first trophy and being selected in the League’s Best Eleven Team at the start of the 2016 season. Unfortunately, he would go on to suffer a terrible back injury in the Spring of 2016 that nearly ended his playing career and kicked off a series of rehabs and back treatments that would test his patience for the next 3 years, until the spring of 2019 when he would be cleared to make his first play in the United Premier Soccer League.

Seemingly lacking any nerves despite the occasion, he sparkled when introduced as an attacking mid in the team’s 2019 US National Cup First Round 9:0 victory against Baron SC at the club’s home stadium in Osseo, Minnesota. Not only did he set up a goal for Rolando Barclay and Nathaniel Atamba but he also blasted in one himself to further send his ‘I am back message’ and to enhance a growing reputation.

At least he has David Adeola in charge of the City Lions, somebody who has already been a hugely positive influence on him from the time he joined the team as Head Coach in 2019, and whereas many pundits and ex-players have been right to indicate there is going to be extra pressure on his shoulders in future United Premier Soccer League campaigns and other National Competitions, his career trajectory suggests there is no great cause for doubt. A virtuoso display against Austin Villa, in a crucial league match away in Austin last summer when he scored a winner for David Adeola’s side, dismissed any notion that the former U21 Uganda national team player can only rise to certain occasions.

In July of 2023, Sendi was awarded as the club’s most-capped player with 91 games, 33 goals, and 42 assists. In that same month, he was awarded as the club’s most successful team captain between 2021 and 2023 for his excellent leadership that helped the club to five major club achievements in that period. Sendi is very much a modern footballer, radiating star status. FC Minneapolis offers him the perfect platform to achieve most of his goals and there is reason to expect it can continue being the perfect combination.
