FC Minneapolis postpones international friendly match with Uganda Cranes

On February 13th, 2018, FC Minneapolis requested the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) to indefinitely postpone the international friendly match with the Senior Uganda National Team which had been earlier scheduled to take place in the FIFA International Spring Break of 2018 on March 18 at Mandela National Stadium in Kampala, Uganda due to sudden changes in the United States Immigration Law that affected some members of the club’s ability to safely travel outside the USA.

In a letter addressed to Edger Watson, the Chief Executive Officer of the Federation, FC Minneapolis said that “From the time of proposing the above match to this present day, there have been
unexpected changes to the United States Immigration Law by the current government which may pose a grave threat to some of our players and members of staff’s ability to safely travel outside the United States and while we are trying to consult with legal experts to find out to what extent this may impact us as a team we are requesting the Federation to postpone the match indefinitely until we have a clear understanding of the situation.”

Even though it is not yet clear how long it will take for the club to figure out when they want to have this match rearranged, they assured FUFA that they will be updating them on any progress made on the above issue.

“This game was meant to open up new football relationships between the United States and the people of Uganda. We will continue working with FUFA and the US relevant authorities to see how we can move forward with our arrangements.” Said Ian Sendi, the Club’s Coach Player.

FC Minneapolis would like to thank the people of Uganda for their support and will be looking forward to visiting them in the near future.
