Jamaica’s Layton Blair speaks of his experience as one of the International players at FC Minneapolis.

Blair is a 20-year-old Jamaican attacking midfielder currently playing for FC Minneapolis in the United Premier Soccer League. Before coming to the United States, he played on the Annette Gardens and the New Kingston Youth Teams in Jamaica between 2015 and 2017.

His Agent Dave Knibbs, based in Canada first talked to FC Minneapolis about the young midfielder in the summer of 2017, but the club was not ready to bring him until the spring of 2018.

“We were able to send him an invitation this year after reviewing his CV and he is currently here with us in the United States on a 10-year Visa.” Said Ian Sendi, the club’s coach-player.

He is expected to return to Jamaica soon to visit his family but he will be coming back next preseason to join the team ahead of their 2019 UPSL Spring Season.

Speaking to our media, Layton said that, “When I first heard that I was coming to America to play for Fc Minneapolis, I was very excited because I was eager to make that next transition in my career and they gave me that opportunity. I was nervous when I arrived for I didn’t know what to expect since everything was new to me. I met the coaching staff and my new teammates and they were very welcoming. I felt at home at the first training session so my nerves were eased.”

“The players were very friendly which made me happy to be a part of this club because we were a family and they made me feel accepted.” “My first game for the club was very special as it was the start of something new! The stadium was very beautiful and that pitch was something that I had never played on before because in Jamaica we don’t normally play on such fields. “

“The morale in the team was very high! Every player was in a good mood and for a debutant that eases the nerves. We lost that game 3:1 against Granite City FC but I felt good because all the players fought and showed hunger on the field. They all played with each other which is the most important thing. I also scored my first goal for the club in my first game that day so it boosted my confidence.”

“All I can is that FC Minneapolis is a beautiful club with wonderful players and a great coaching staff and it is the best thing that has ever happened to me and I’m really very grateful for the opportunity that Coach Ian Sendi has given me and one day when I’m playing in Europe at the climax of my career, because that’s where I see myself a few seasons from now, I’ll tell people about that Ugandan coach that showed faith in me and gave me a wonderful opportunity to express my skills and talent on the field and I will tell people that I would have been nothing without that opportunity.”
