Mbarara City FC’s Nathaniel Atamba joins FC Minneapolis on the club’s International Players’ Program

Nathaniel Atamba is an eighteen-year-old Ugandan Left forward previously registered with Mbarara City FC of the Star-Times Uganda Premier League. He had his debut and only game with the Premiership side against Bright Stars FC at Kakyeka Stadium in Mbarara district of Western Uganda on 29th December 2018.

Before signing with Mbarara City FC, the young lad played three years of High School in Coca Cola Post Primary Competitions reaching the National group stages, and scoring over 40 goals, and assisting 14 times in years 2015, 2016, and 2017 respectively.

It was upon that outstanding performance that Mbarara Sports Academy picked interest in him in the season of 2017-2018; the same period Mbarara City Junior Team of the FUFA Junior’s League signed him. While at Mbarara City Junior Team, Nathaniel scored 15 goals and assisted roughly 7 times finishing in second goal scoring position with only 10 goals behind Anaku who was crowned as the leading top scorer with 25 goals in the FUFA Juniors League during the 2017-2018 season.

With such impressive performance, it was clear that Nathaniel Atamba was on his way to the highest level of football in Uganda, and in November 2018, he was promoted to the Mbarara City FC Senior Team on a mutual agreement basis.

In 2017, Nathaniel was invited to the Uganda U20 National Team ahead of the COSAFA tournament Scheduled to be played in Zambia, and even if he was not able to travel with the team due to High School Academic obligations at the time, he was able to camp with the team for the duration picking up that very vital National Team experience.

In the summer of 2018, Nathaniel’s Agent Ronnie Santos Mwiine Fred approached FC Minneapolis on the boy’s behalf, and after reviewing his CV, the club was convinced that he would be a great fit for their International Players Program, and thus consequently sending him an invitation in October of the same year.

The player was successfully granted a Visa, and he arrived in the United States on March 30th, 2019. He has been training with the Senior Team while undergoing both physical and medical evaluations, and he is expected to be featured in the Club’s Season Opener with Barron SC scheduled for Saturday, April 20th at the Osseo Stadium in Osseo, Minnesota.

“Atamba has a great potential for growth. His game is more developed than his age. He will be happy playing in the United States, and particularly the United Premier Soccer League.” Added the Ugandan midfielder!

Nathaniel Atamba will be adorned with the number 18 during his first season here in Minneapolis, and he is excited to be playing up top with other City Lions like Alexander James Brent, Emmanuel Togar, Roland Barclay, Lorestho Banks, Watson Zaris, and Lawrence Miracle.
