After almost 9 seasons with FC Minneapolis, Sendi Ian took to social media last November to announce that he was leaving the club.
“Today I leave this club, but my heart stays here. This City, this community, this club, these fans, and everyone here will forever be my family. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that has supported me in my football journey, including my wife and family, my agent, the Ugandan FA, teammates and coaches, my Church community at Mills, and especially everyone at FC Minneapolis.” said the Ugandan midfielder in a goodbye statement last year.
Sendi who is the most capped player in the history of the club was part of the regular squad that won the American Premier League title in 2015, reached the 2017, and 2018 Lions’ Cup finals, the 2019 finals, and the 2021 semifinals of the Fall Cup, and is a 2022 winner of the Fall Cup. In 2021, he was part of the FC Minneapolis squad that reached the Region Two US National Cup finals in Chicago, made it to the USASA Champions of Regions Championship in Michigan that same year, and was part of the team that made it to the United Premier Soccer League division semifinals of 2021, and 2022 consecutively. He is also the most successful captain in the club’s history so far.
According to the City Lions boss Oluwalaanu David, Sendi had decided not to continue his career with FC Minneapolis so he could take off some time away from football and be with his family as he reflects on the next chapter of his playing career, and he had decided not to commit to any other team until after the summer of 2023 but his former coach was able to convince him to return to Minneapolis on a short term basis so he can help the team as he also stays active.
“I am pleased that Sendi is back with us. He brings a lot of experience and leadership to our camp and I am sure once we fix things tactically, he is going to be very helpful.” Added Oluwalaanu.
Sendi will be in Minneapolis until the break of the summer season in July 2023, and he will make decisions concerning his future after that.
