In a thrilling turn of events, FC Minneapolis is proud to announce that Ian Sendi will be returning to the club for his remarkable 11th career season. The beloved captain has agreed to terms on a short-term basis, bringing a wave of hope and excitement to the club, its players, and fans.
Since stepping into the role of First Team Captain in 2021, Ian Sendi has been the heart and soul of FC Minneapolis. His exemplary leadership between spring 2021 and fall 2023 led the team to five major club achievements, cementing his legacy as the club’s most successful captain.

Last June, Sendi and his fellow legends, including Gafar Ayodele, Darius Sango, Demba Jameh, and Luis Rodriguez, were honored at the club’s home stadium in Maple Grove. They received club legends medals and were inducted into the Club’s Hall of Fame. On this memorable day, Sendi was also celebrated as the club’s most-capped player, with an impressive record of 115 games, 36 goals, and 46 assists.
In a momentous milestone, November 2024 saw Sendi earning his debut with the Uganda National Team at the age of 34. He was part of the elite 21-player squad announced by the Federation of Uganda Football Association for the Uganda Cranes Namutima squad, playing a western region tour match in Rukungiri.

Despite speculations about his future since 2022, Sendi’s commitment to FC Minneapolis remains unwavering. The news of his decision to stay was met with immense excitement and relief by the club’s Director for Growth and Development, David Oluwalaanu, Head Coach Keith Bleyer, and Assistant Coach Kpatcha Toyisson.
“Ian’s dedication and passion for the club are truly inspiring,” said Head Coach Keith Bleyer. “Having him back for another season is a tremendous boost for the entire team.”
Sendi himself expressed his heartfelt commitment, saying, “I have a deep connection with FC Minneapolis, my teammates, and the fans. This club and the city of Minneapolis hold a special place in my heart.”
Beyond his illustrious football career, Ian Sendi is the Founder of the Sendi Ian Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing hope and restoration to Uganda’s needy communities. Since its inception in 2007, the foundation has provided shelter, clothing, feeding, and healthcare to orphans, street children, and other disadvantaged kids. It also empowers vulnerable women and young adults with skills to become the leaders they are meant to be.
The Sendi Ian Foundation continues to embody its vision of giving each individual a chance at a better future—a future full of hope. Despite the evolving challenges, the foundation remains unwavering in its commitment to spreading the Good News and caring for the community.
