Following a goalless first half, Guinea’s Moise Damey opened up the score sheet with a brilliant finish that put the City Lions in the lead with a one goal margin.
FC Minneapolis’ 18-year-old Guled Ali came in for Fabian Aguilar scoring two beautiful long range goals to give the Minneapolis side a comfortable 3-0 lead by the 70th minute.
Solomon Ikechi picked up Guled’s assist scoring from the 18 yards and giving his side a breather with a 4-0 lead.
Oromo United was able to catch FC Minneapolis on the break racing into their penalty box before Hassan Jillo brought down their top forward and the referee pointed to the spot in the 88th minute of the second half.
The visitors were able to convert the penalty bringing the score to 4-1 but Liberia’s Mark Dweh sealed the score sheet with a brilliant left foot goal to make it 5-1 by full time.
“There’s no doubt this was a great challenge for the boys. Oromo is a formidable opponent and seeing the team pull off such a result is a testament of improvement on our side” Said Ian Sendi.
The Uganda also went ahead to thank all the many fans who came out and supported the City Lions on their inaugural match at the Gordy Aarmoth Stadium.
FC Minneapolis will be traveling to Missouri this coming weekend to play PDL’S St Louis Lions before returning to Minnesota to play with Baraya FC on May 20th.
