The City Lions this weekend will be looking for an opportunity to recover from last Saturday’s home defeat to FC Fargo as they host Hopkins based Twin Stars this Sunday at Einer Anderson Stadium in a derby that has already got the Twin Cities talking.
“FC Minneapolis is a strong team that has lost games carelessly this season. This is partly due to most players being new to the club and perhaps still struggling to find their footing on team but it should never be an excuse for a club at this level.” Said Aron, the club’s secretary.
Samuel Otieno, who has been a strong pillar in the Minneapolis defense will miss Sunday’s game serving a one match suspension after being shown a red card by Corner Tobin in the 89th minute of the previous game but he is expected to join the team as they travel to Duluth on July 10th.
Gabriel Williams will be out of action this weekend nursing an ankle injury he picked up on Saturday but Alexis Vera who missed Fargo’s game will be available to play on Sunday.
“We won against Granite City with a decent performance. We had to capitalize on that facing Fargo but we didn’t and in the end we lost at home.” Sendi Ian told the club media today in a phone interview while at his residence in Crystal. The Ugandan added that he has never been confident of his team like he is now. “We have some of the best players in the State in almost each position and we just have to keep reminding ourselves that we have what it takes to win.” He added.
“Sendi came in to this 2016 season 70% less than he has ever been. The back injury he suffered in Spring had a tremendous impact on his game but gauging by his attitude in training and willingness to be the star we knew him to be inspires us to hope that he has brighter days ahead and he is definitely one of the players to look out for this Sunday against Minnesota Twin Stars.” Said Varney Cole, the club’s Head Coach.
FC Minneapolis may be introducing some new faces after successfully signing Burma’s Zeus Htoo, who is likely to play upfront with either Abunyanyi Lual or Ochan Ochogi.
