FC Minneapolis is delighted to confirm the returning of Ian Sendi on a three-year arrangement with the option to extend for a further year, subject to further discussions.
Sendi, a 2022 Fall Cup winner, in July 2023 was recognized as the club’s most-capped player with a career total of 91 games, 33 goals, and 42 assists. In that same month, he was awarded as the club’s most successful team captain between 2021 and 2023 for his excellent leadership that helped the club to five major team achievements in that period.
Ian Sendi said:
“FC Minneapolis is a club that has always had a special place in my heart, and I have been sincerely overwhelmed by all the support I have received from my teammates and friends since I came back to the USA. I cannot wait to play in the United Premier Soccer League and see all the people again. I’m looking forward to continuing my training with the team, and I hope we have a successful season.”
David Adeola Oluwalaanu said:
“You can never have the right words to describe Sendi. He is not only a great player, but also a wonderful human being, and for him to have the desire and the ability to play at the premier level of our league for such a long period requires a very special kind of person. I have full confidence that he will continue to impress all of us in more ways on and off the field. Besides, his playing and leadership experience will be quite vital for the younger players on the team, and his return literally shows the unique appeal of this club and I am exceedingly happy that he is coming home to where it all started.”
Sendi’s recent achievements include reaching consecutive UPSL West Division semi-finals in 2021 and 2022. In 2021, with him as captain, FC Minneapolis made history by becoming the first Minnesota team to reach the finals of the US National Cup in over a century, in which they lost to Spring Field at the Toyota Park in Chicago.
In the the same year, they also became the first Minnesota team to get to the semifinals of the Champions of Regions championship, and most recently in 2022 Sendi’s club triumphed as the Minnesota Fall Cup Champions.
Sendi has very much continued to grow into a modern footballer, radiating star status, and there’s reason to expect that his return to Minneapolis will bring fresh energy and excitement to the club. .
